How to File a Complaint Against Ola Electric and Get Compensation (Step-by-Step Guide)

If you own an Ola S1, you probably know the struggle. You love the scooter, but the service experience can be a nightmare. Recently, I found myself in a situation where Ola Electric’s service center wrongfully denied my warranty claim and forced me to pay thousands of rupees for repairs that should have been free.

Instead of fighting with the store manager or posting angry tweets that get ignored, I decided to take the legal route. And guess what? It is easier than you think.

In this post, I will share my personal experience and guide you on how to file a consumer complaint against Ola Electric online using the government’s e-Jagriti (e-Daakhil) portal to get your money back—plus compensation for the harassment.

Why You Should File a Formal Complaint

Most people don’t file cases because they think it requires expensive lawyers. That is a myth. The Consumer Protection Act, 2019, is designed for common people. By filing a case, you can claim:

  1. Refund: Get back the money you wrongfully paid for repairs.
  2. Compensation: Ask for a specific amount (e.g., ₹25,000 to ₹50,000) for “mental agony and harassment.”
  3. Litigation Costs: Make them pay for your legal expenses (even if it’s just printing costs).

How to File Your Complaint on e-Jagriti (Step-by-Step)

Step 1: Gather Your Evidence

Before you start, make sure you have digital copies (PDFs) of the following proofs. These are your “weapons”:

  • Tax Invoice: Proof of scooter purchase.
  • Warranty Certificate: The document showing your active plan.
  • Repair Bill: The invoice showing you were charged for parts that should have been covered.
  • Proof of Denial: Emails or job cards where they refused warranty (if you have them).

Step 2: Register on the Portal

Go to e-jagriti.gov.in. This is the government’s official platform for filing consumer cases online. Register with your email and phone number.

Step 3: Generate Your Legal Documents (The Easy Way)

You don’t need to be a lawyer to draft these legal documents. You can simply use an AI tool like Gemini or ChatGPT to generate them for you in seconds. Just feed the AI your case details (dates, invoice numbers, warranty terms) and ask it to generate the following five documents in the prescribed Consumer Court format:

  1. Index: A table of contents for your file.
  2. Proforma for Filing Consumer Complaint: A summary sheet with your details and claim amount.
  3. Synopsis with List of Dates and Events: A brief timeline of what happened (e.g., Date of Purchase, Date of Defect, Date of Denial).
  4. Memo of Parties: A list of the Complainant (You) vs. the Opposite Parties (Ola Electric Head Office & Local Service Center).
  5. Consumer Complaint with Affidavit: The main document detailing your story, the unfair trade practice, and the compensation you are demanding.

Important Note: The “Affidavit” section needs to be notarized. You don’t even need to visit a lawyer for this—you can use online notarization services (like e-Notary platforms available in India) to get your affidavit digitally signed and stamped from the comfort of your home.

Step 4: Upload and Submit

Once you have your generated PDFs and notarized affidavit ready:

  1. Select your District Commission (based on where you live or bought the scooter).
  2. Upload the 5 documents listed above.
  3. Attach your “Evidence” (Invoices and Warranty Cards) as Annexures.

Step 5: Pay the Fee

For claims up to ₹5 Lakhs, there is often zero court fee in many states. If there is a fee, it is usually nominal (around ₹200). You can pay this online directly on the portal.

What Happens Next?

After hitting submit, I got a Filing Reference Number.

  • Scrutiny: The court registrar checks your documents online. If everything is correct, your case is “Admitted.”
  • Notice Issued: The court sends a notice to Ola Electric asking them to respond within 30-45 days.
  • The Hearing: You might get a date to appear (either virtually via video link or in person). In many consumer cases, if the documents speak for themselves, the process is very straightforward.

Final Thoughts

Companies like Ola count on customers giving up because the process seems “too hard.” But when you file a formal complaint, you force them to send a legal representative to answer for their actions. It is the most effective way to hold them accountable.

If you are tired of generic customer support replies, take 30 minutes this weekend to file your case. It’s not just about the money; it’s about your rights as a consumer.
