Remote Desktop Gateway: Your computer can’t connect to the remote computer
Issue:
When trying to connect to a Remote Desktop Gateway server using Remote Desktop(RDP), you may get error “Your computer can’t connect to the remote computer because an error occurred on the remote computer that you want to connect to. Contact your network administrator for assistance.”
Cause:
Microsoft has introduced support for RDP over RPC-HTTP connections instead of normal HTTP/UDP for performance benefits and it has forced many client computers to use this. However, latest RDP Gateway servers won’t support this and connection fails.
Resolution/Fix:
Change the registry value for RDGClientTransport key to 1 and the connection should get established without issues.
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Terminal Server Client\
DWORD: RDGClientTransport
Value: 1
